Progress

The painting portion on this thing is finally done. I still have to finish the edging and figure out how to add hardware for hanging it.

This is what i have tried with the collage elements. Still thinking about it, but i have a lot more of the wrappers, so i have the option to play more.

  1. Hi Jasmine,
The b/w side looks good. Don't worry about how to hang it - when we meet next week we can look at it together and I can help you work it out.
I think you should take a look at Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown's book Learning from Las Vegas

It's about architecture, but I think you'll get something from it. It's a seminal book that has been as important to artists (especially pop artists) as it has been to people designing buildings.

I don't know if you've already started with the other wrappers, but if not, I'd suggest working on at least one where your first move is not to blanket the surface with them. You always play with layering in your work. With collage, you're physically applying layers - it's something you can play around with. Covering the background with elements that can be collaged eliminates your ability to use them to play with the physicality of the layers. Hold back and play more.

  2. Hey Jasmine! I really like the idea of collage for your subject matter. The repetition of the wrappers is awesome, and definately deserves future investigation!
